Christy Rasmussen Art

ARTIST STATEMENT:

In addition to being a practicing artist, I am also an art teacher who is passionate about creating and using art as a bridge that connects people and places. As an artist/teacher, I actively search for and participate in artistic experiences that will enrich my curriculum and give my students access to “art bridges” that connect them to new cultures, places and people. My school campus is adjacent to a park that was donated by a founding father of my small town, Merrill, WI and I often bring my students over there for this purpose of understanding and expressing the beauty of nature and the sacrifices our ancestors made to protect lands for future generations to appreciate. Being aware of your surroundings, noticing and being able to communicate the small details is the key to being an artist.

I live and teach in a rural small town in Northern Wisconsin. I enjoy using art to enrich my students lives and impress upon them how art is a universal language that connects and helps us understand each other, no matter where we are from. Art is an accessible way to explore and appreciate other cultures and places. Art is my passion, and I have been fortunate to be able to make a living doing what I love. To follow your passion and look for opportunities to use that passion to enhance your life and the lives of those around you is the legacy I hope to leave with my art.
